Goodnight My Love

As I say good night to end this day,
I note you not here, but miles away.
My heart ‘tis empty and lonely inside,
As a sadness grows that I try to hide.

I close my eyes and wish myself to sleep,
But with emptiness I try not to weep.
Yet I remember what you said then,
How we found each other once again.

Though distance tends to keep us apart,
I hold you still so near to my heart.
When nights together can’t yet be ours,
I gaze above and see you in stars.

Remembering your words I begin to smile,
As I close my eyes to lessen the miles.
I can feel you close, our souls entwined,
Forever together our fates designed.

I sit alone waiting with hope in my heart,
No longer wanting to be kept far apart.
Clinging yet to the love of my life,
Hoping again to be with my wife.
